Milk and cookies. Is it not the most perfect pair, ever? But there’s always something in the middle of these two… the drinking vessel you have to put the milk in. Two’s company, three’s a round? Dang right! Cookie Mug in Marikina gets rid of the third party and marries milk and cookies forever. This paragraph is full of cliches but I’m still going to call the Cookie Mug and Milk (in this case Mocha) as a match made in heaven. So there.
I’ve heard about Cookie Mug since the middle of 2014. A follower of my instagram even hit his chocolate cookie shot with the #foodmetromanila tag and was featured in my feed:
However, despite my girlfriend (talk about perfect pairs!) living in Marikina, I have not visited a place in Lilac street. That is until today! And my first stop is of course Cookie Mug.
The place is very cozy and smells really nice. You’ll have to do some walking up a flight of stairs, which oddly reminded me of the time I visited Magnum Opus in the South, but it will be well worth it once you get there. Not a bright locale but has enough that accentuates everything inside. Lots of wood accents and good music round it all out.
The display case showcases the cookie “glasses” that range from small, medium, large, and the cookie mug. It’s a cookie, shaped like a glass/mug, with the inside lined with milk chocolate. I don’t want to use a traditional mug ever again!
However, that’s not all they have. There’s also a selection of cupcakes, cakes, and some savory items. Burger, fries, heck they even have a spaghetti in some wrap that looks like a burrito. To be honest that item really sounds weird to me.
But we were only here for milk and cookies and those were exactly what we ordered! Let’s talk about that, shall we?
Cookie Mug, Large Cookie Shot, Mocha, and Cara
I’m going to come clean to everyone since we’re all friends here… We were not sure that we we can eat the cookie things. We discretely asked the guy in the counter (the barista?) and he gave us a small nod while trying hard not to smile. These cookies and the chocolate lining are hella thick and the mug actually feels and weighs like a regular mug!
Haziel has the large cookie shot with Caramel Milk, or Cara. I got the big-assed mug with Mocha. They also have chocolate and just the plain ole’ milk but why would you do that?
Haziel’s Cara Shot
The Caramel milk is sweet but not in a way that will hurt your throat. It’s a soothing sweetness that will make you just want to kick back and feel like kid all over again. It will also make you want to bite into a cookie which you can conveniently do after (or even during) sipping. I told you it’s a match made in heaven!
Haziel had a lot of fun drinking the cara and drinking from the cookie shot. She was also digging the sounds especially when they took it back to Under the Bridge by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Of course I was really happy to see my girl having a good time. Boyfriend points? Hell yeah!
How to drink coffee if you’re grown man but still a kid at heart
Mocha on a cookie mug. If this place was near my office I would be here every damn day!
They make the mocha right as well. I was seated with a clear view of the counter and I saw the guy (the barista?) first pull a shot of coffee, poured in to the glass bottle with some water, then poured the chocolate milk in. The result? Pure coffee-chocolate magic.
And you know what, with all that chocolate in there, it still wasn’t overpoweringly sweet! They seem to have really thought about the flavors of these things and how they’ll complement each other. The taste of the coffee in that mocha is smooth. I don’t really like drinking cold coffee drinks but this is an exception!
Caffe Americano
Tasting that smooth coffee in the mocha made me want to try the actual coffee. This was a good idea. The coffee is really smooth and has a hint of chocolate. Or is it because I’ve had too much chocolate on my palate?
Ruminations…
We didn’t get any other food aside from our cookies and we were already full. The milk drinks are really good and the one cup of coffee I had was straight up divine. I really hate that it’s not easy for us to get to this place. I also wish that this will have a branch near our office. I’d recommend anyone going to Marikina to try this small place in Lilac Street. There’s also a rib place in the first floor that was really full of people so it must also be good.
Cookie Mug may actually make it to my top ten coffee places for 2015. Have your tried Cookie Mug? Let me know!
