You’ve probably heard of Early Bird Breakfast Club before and most probably it’s their locations in Century City and the Fort, but this visit was special. I took my mom to dinner a day before her birthday! She wanted to go visit the Padre Pio Church and then go around Eastwood City. We spent almost two hours in the Padre Pio Church so by the time we got to Eastwood City I was so famished. I had plans to try the new Costa Coffee in the Citywalk 1 but turns it was only open for a private event.

Mom’s tastes are simple – she loves Filipino dishes and rice. We actually almost ate at Green Pastures but at the last minute bailed because she didn’t see enough rice dishes. So I led her here and she loved it!

She liked the decor, she liked the wait staff, she liked the way how the plating looked, and (more importantly) she loved the taste of the food. This is only my second time here and but I have loved the food everytime!

It’s all day breakfast items with some traditional Filipino dishes prepared with a modern/fusion twist. They also have some Western-inspired items and coffee in partnership with Craft Coffee company. I mean if not for the girly decor, this place could definitely be my jam!

Uh oh, hope they get that fixed. Sayang naman...

It’s not brimming with people but it didn’t feel empty. There was a group of young businesswomen talking about potential ventures as well as their friendship. A group of young and affluent teenagers came a little while after us and immediately started chatting about what they’ll be doing over the weekend. You could forget that you were in very busy Eastwood City on a Friday evening while inside this quaint place.

Butterbeer

Avada Kedavra me with that goodness!

Sparkling water with caramel (lots of caramel), capped with a thick and sweet foam, and topped with marhsmallows and a caramel crisp. Pure awesomeness in one cup. Watch your sugar level though, this thing is sweet!

Viva Longganisa

Why do you put the rice inside a small glass? Why?
Why do you put the rice inside a small glass? Why?

Four pieces of longganisa, your choice of how the eggs will be cooked, a side of crisp veggies, and “breakfast rice” that’s oddly in a glass. Here comes… Nitpicking!

EBBC Viva Longganisa 2

  • The longganisa was made with relatively lean meat and with little fat. It’s kind of good for your health but is also a tad dry. It’s also too sweet for my liking as I like my Filipino sausages with some kick of garlic and a bit more saltier. It’s not bad, just not my favorite.
  • The scrambled eggs had some liquid seeping out of them. According to Alton Brown’s Good Eats (way back when I was still in School) this is an indicator of your scrambled eggs being overcooked. The seasoning was good, though.
  • The “breakfast rice” (or garlic rice if you’re KJ like me) was good but unnecessarily placed inside a glass. I don’t mind eating from a bowl some times (like when I’m in RF) but eating out of a glass? No!
  • The veg was made up of crisp and fresh bits of bell peppers, tomatoes, raw red onions (yikes!), and zucchini all doused with pesto. I really can’t eat raw food but I couldn’t help get a few pieces. The pesto tasted good!

As I said, I was just nitpicking. It was a pretty good dish, just not my favorite “longsilog” ever. You can try it if you want but I’m not recommending it.

Sunny Salpicao

And it is not beef salpicao!

I am fascinated by this dish. First of all, this was the first time I have ever tried Chicken Salpicao, thinking that this dish had always been reserved for choice cuts of beef. Next, the construction of the plate seems so obvious on paper but it’s actually mesmerizing in real life. The salpicao is delicately places around a mound of “breakfast rice” and then it’s crowned with an absolutely beautiful poached egg.

And finally, the execution. The chicken was absolutely tender and the mushrooms were not from a can (thankfully!). The worcestershire sauce has permeated finely into the cuts of meat and mushrooms. It didn’t have an overwhelming taste of garlic but it was there nonetheless and very welcome. It’s a bit pricey at 345 Php of just a few minced pieces of chicken and mushrooms but I didn’ really mind it with this one.

Ruminations…

One of the two most important women in my life (the other being my girlfriend, Haziel) was very happy a day before her birthday. That alone made this visit to Early Bird Breakfast Club very special. I also discovered a killer Chicken Salpicao dish that I wouldn’t mind revisiting in the future. We celebrated it a day early because I had to do some office related stuff during the actual day.

EBBC 7

Absolutely bang-on dishes with a very good atmosphere. Early Bird Breakfast is absolutely one of the places where I’d like to enjoy a dish or two with good company. You wouldn’t find me alone here though. I’ve only hit the surface of their offerings, head on over to one their branches and discover what else they can offer.
