Theolly Tea Shop, Ground Floor, Robinsons Metro East, Pasig City
Theolly Tea Shop, Ground Floor, Robinsons Metro East, Pasig City

Ever since Mocha Blends and Frio Mixx closed (God I’m old!), Robinsons Metro East did not have a proper coffee/tea shop for a while. There are still some kiosks with some seating but those wont do! Patrons need a place where they can relax and forget about the bustle of the mall for a few minutes or even hours. So when I saw Theolly open up, in the ground floor nonetheless, I just had to try it.

The ambiance definitely cuts you off the noise of the fairly busy mall. The seating, although not really plush, were very comfortable. The paintings gave it a touch of class but the modernist lighting brings it all back to this generation.

Not an art connoisseur. Not even going to go there.

Theolly Tea Shop 3

A coffee/tea shop staple, the chalk board. But why is Theolly's hidden at the very back of the store?

The first time I tried to get something here, they were out of a lot of things. I forgave them as they were still on soft opening. I didn’t get anything that day. Now that they’ve been open for almost a month, I’m expecting more.

Chocolate Revel Bar

Don't let size fool you, this midget packs an intense chocolate punch!

The Quesadilla and one sandwich were available this time and the owner’s son (yeah, you could tell that he is The Son) was not really sure that the wings were. But that was it. They had about 10 items in that menu but only 3 are available? Get them out of there and just concentrate on the drinks! Just offer some small bites just like this awesome chocolate revel bar.

That is all chocolate man, soft chewy chocolate
That is all chocolate man, soft and  chewy chocolate

It’s made of soft, chewy, good chocolate with some walnut and crumble bits baked in. I am wishing that I could eat some of these just out of the oven. I could be in heaven if that happened. I’m just nitpicking here, but If anything is wrong with these is the size. I want these things a bit larger. They are just 25 Php but come on! Anyone can easily wolf this down in one bite!

Peppermint Rock Salt & Cheese

Sounds fancy but tastes like something a kid can make (though I doubt a kid will drink this)

Another girlfriend fact: She loves peppermint flavor. Yep, that’s what she’ll be ordering from Starbucks during Christmas. She buys Twinings’  peppermint tea bags. When she reads peppermint in a menu she’ll order it. So yeah, she got the peppermint rock salt and cheese.

She was somewhat disappointed and I was too. She loved the peppermint flavor (of course) but everything else was forgettable.

They serve it without the cap to show off this. Looks like pepper... Wait... Peppermint? No!

I did not get why there’s rock salt in the name. It just tasted like peppermint tea. The cheese was actually gross. It was clumped up on the top and when we mixed it it just looked like small curds floating in some liquid. I just don’t get what they’re trying to do with this line of drinks, and they have about five more of these!

Blueberry Fruit Tea

According to their Board and the owner's son himself, this is one of their best sellers. I cannot see why.
According to their Board and the owner’s son himself, this is one of their best sellers. I cannot see why. But ooh! Foam!

I was not looking to order a fruit tea. But when I asked the owner’s son what their best sellers were he then pointed me to the Board of best sellers. I mean it’s kind of hidden so I didn’t see it immediately. He explained the items and as soon as he said Blueberry I also blurted out “Blueberry” and he immediately though that was my order. He already wrote it down so I just stuck with it. (For the record, I blurted “Blueberry” out becuase I was questioning why that’s a best seller)

The foam on top may show that it was blended. So they blended preserved blueberrys? Or did they hit pre-made fruit tea in a drink shaker to make it look more fancy. Either way, I didn’t like it. The flavor was bland, watery even. I regret ordering this. I was looking at one of the basic teas for Christ’s sake!

Ruminations…

I so want them to improve their drinks. I’m in this mall a lot on my way to my girlfriend’s house and I want to grab a quick, good drink every time. Or just chill here with her when we have to go do some quick grocery errands. The place is awesome, I just need a damn good reason to stay in it! And at least offer wifi!

Theolly Tea Shop allI am a bit disappointed. There is one awesome review of their main store in Marikina on zomato as of this posting. I did not see anything in this branch except the cool ambience. Please, please improve your drinks! And forget about the food menu! I don’t want a quesadilla with my tea anyway! I’ll see you again soon Theolly, I’m going to give you another chance.
